This 6-week workshop was organized by the Smithsonian Data Science Lab and the University of California Santa Barbara Office of Education Partnerships as part of the UCSB-Smithsonian Scholars program. The course materials and this website were both adapted from materials originally created by Ethan White and Zachary Brym. See their contributors page for more details.
Funding
The UCSB‐Smithsonian Scholars Program is primarily funded through the Latino Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Latino Center. Additional funds are provided by UCSB, the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, and the Smithsonian Office of the Chief Information Officer.
Data Carpentry
Data Carpentry is a web and workshop based organization that is designed to teach basic computing concepts, skills, and tools for working with scientific data. The resources provided on this site were originally developed in association with Data Carpentry.
Software Carpentry
Software Carpentry has been teaching scientists and engineers the concepts, skills, and tools they need to use and build software more productively since 1977. All of the content is freely available under a Creative Commons license (the same one used here).
Infrastructure
The site is built using Jekyll with the Hyde theme from Poole and icons from Font Awesome by Dave Gandy.
